Kate Sheeran Swed loves hot chocolate, plastic dinosaurs, and airplane tickets. Kay Braithwaite

Fictional Bookshop Owner & Former Rebel Pilot

Thrust into a leadership role as her people establish a new home base in the stars, Kay would rather be piloting a fighter in the war than shelving books in the dusty old space station the survivors have salvaged to ensure humanity’s future. But there are plenty of dangers lurking in a decades-old station, and abundant mysteries that need solving…

Mission Bookshop Kayt

About the Bookshop

The philosophy of Mission: Bookshop, and my intention behind it, is pretty straightforward.

  • It’s a bookshop that tells a story. Readers can tune in on a semi-weekly basis to follow the bookshop owner’s adventures through an ongoing Mission Log serial. (Which is free to read.)

Kay also appears throughout the online store, popping up to offer her recommendations and (often prickly) opinions.

  • It’s where the indie author meets the indie bookstore. Independent authors run small businesses, just like independent bookstores do. My books are available in all the big-name storefronts, and I’ll be thrilled if you pick up one of my titles there. But this shop allows me to build my own little world — and yes, to scrape a higher profit margin, which ultimately means I can offer better prices to my readers overall. Ultimately, I hope this site can serve as a hub for all my readers — no matter where they purchase their books.
  • It’s the coziest bookshop in the galaxy (even though it’s online). I want the shopping experience to reflect the spirit I try to capture in my books. I’m working to create a fun, interactive environment where readers can spend lots of time engaging in the kinds of worlds and activities they enjoy. It’s an escape; it’s a place where the cares of our galaxy can fade to the background, if only for a short time.

So curl up, grab a cup of Bantha milk and hang around for a while :) I’m glad you’re here!
